Eski Mostar şehrinin mimari ve kentsel yapısının ayrılmaz bir parçası olan eser 1566-67 yıllarında inşa edilmiştir. Mimar Hayrettin'in eseridir. Mostar'ın simgesi haline gelen ve dünyanın en büyük tek gözlü taş köprülerinden biri olan köprü, 1993 yılında savaş sırasında yıkılmıştır. Büyük bir mimarlık mantığıyla estetiği buluşturan ve gerek sanatsal, gerekse bilimsel açıdan müstesna bir eser olan köprü, 2003 yılında, yeniden inşa edilerek hizmete açılmıştır.

An integral part of the architectural and urban structure of the old city of Mostar, the bridge was built in 1566-67, planned by Ottoman architect Hayredin. The bridge, which is one of the biggest single-arch stone bridges in the world, has become the symbol of Mostar. It was bombed and destroyed in 1993 during the wars in the Balkans. However, it was carefully rebuilt according to the original plans and reopened to the public in 2003.
The bridge is a rare work of art in both its artistic and scientific aspects where a great architectural logic is integrated with a profound aesthetic sense.
