Overhanging rock at Yosemite
Glacier Point, Yosemite National Park, California.
This overhanging rock projects into space at the top of a sheer cliff that is some 3,200 feet (almost 1,000 meters) to the base at Curry Village.
Year after year, it brings daredevils who feel compelled to show themselves off at the tip of the big rock. On several trips to Yosemite, I have never seen anyone brave enough to walk up to the edge of this rock, but there are dozens of pictures online that show people standing at the tip of this overhang, and in some cases, going crazy. See some of them below (none of them taken by me).
Some of these images are probably doctored, but I'm sure many are also real. Some people (probably rock climbers) are likely used to the altitude and open space. I am not one of them - I have severe vertigo, so I don't go anywhere near the edge!
