PIG @ J&J Foods Gainesville Georgia

In June of 1976, Johnnie Wiley and his brother-in-law, Junior Reece, were running a small 3000 square foot grocery store and gas station just outside of Gainesville, Georgia, called Holiday Supermarket. They heard from vendors that a former Winn Dixie store near downtown Gainesville might be for sale. About this same time, a grocer from a neighboring town indicated interest in purchasing Holiday Supermarket from Johnnie and Junior. One afternoon, Johnnie met with representatives of Warehouse Foods and the potential buyer for Holiday Supermarket. After negotiating back and forth, Johnnie and Junior were able to strike a deal to sell their small store and purchase the larger store in Gainesville. The name for J&J Foods was chosen by using the first letters of each owner’s first name.
