Escura hasselback, First test shot

I got my Hasselback today, expecting the worst.

I knew it can only slide into its place when the shutter is not cocked and it has to go all the way in so the gear and the firing pin can move freely.

Still after the first shutter action it jammed and I had to unscrew it from the baseplate to get it off the camera and release the shutter.

The detached baseplate could be easily mounted and unmounted.

I attached the back to the baseplate again and removed the thick foam thingy and replaced it with black electric tape for light sealing, also for keeping the back in its place so it doesn't fall off.

I put a spacer frame that I had lasercut from 3mm acrylic under the ground glass to compensate for the focus offset.

With the spacer in place I could not close the holding clips and there was no space left to slide the viewing hood back on.

I did a first test shot fully open (f/2.8, 1/30s) with a warm white LED ceiling lamp and the focus was not too far off.

The yellow colour is from the warm-white ceiling lamp.

The engineering and workmanship of the Escura hasselback is abysmal, Be prepared to do some modifications in order to get some resltus and prevent camera damage.

I expect the eject mechanism to fail soon.

The darkslide is punched, with sharp burrs on one side. Remove them with fine sandpaper or a nail file.

I can shoot photos in focus with the spacer but that means no VF hood and the focusing screen is sitting loose on top of the camera.

When I have finished my first pack of square film I'll mount a ground glass in the empty cartridge to compare the focus at the film plane with the focusing screen.
