Princess_1505_Lakeside2
Bagnall 0-6-0ST Princess departs Lakeside with the last train of the day from Lakeside to Haverthwaite, 30th May 2015.
Locomotive History
Princess was built by W.G Bagnall and Co. Ltd at their Stafford works (works no. 2682) in 1942 and was the prototype for a small class of seven powerful shunting locomotives built for the Port of Preston for use on their extensive dock system. Princess is unusual for an industrial type of locomotive in that it was fitted with steam heating apparatus for warming the vans of the Geest Company’s bananas imported from the West Indies, the maintenance of correct storage temperatures being critical. It spent its entire industrial career at the Port of Preston until withdrawn in 1968.
