River_Mite_1505_Dalegarth
It is thirty six years since I last visited the 15 inch Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway and the driver/fireman of 2-8-2 River Mite informs the railways signalling centre that he has arrived at the end of the line at Dalegarth, 30th May 2014.
Locomotive History
River Mite is owned by the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway Preservation Society, and first entered service in 1967. Built by Clarkson’s of York using components from River Esk’s steam tender, the engine made history when it was delivered to Ravenglass by steam traction engine. River Mite carries the distinctive Indian Red Livery from the old Furness Railway which sets it apart from the similar River Esk.
