King's College chapel lectern
A fine 16th-century bronze lectern stands in the choir of King's College chapel in Cambridge. In the centre, on this side, is the arms of the college surrounded by Tudor roses, an emblem of the Tudor monarchy. These roses are repeated in the fretwork at the top of the lectern alternating with the fleur-de-lis, a symbol of France. The Tudor kings claimed the throne of France as well as that of England, thus both symbols are found throughout the chapel.
