The Flying Monk
A Zike among bikes
The Sinclair Zike, launched in 1992. Modestly promoted as "the greatest invention since the bicycle". The Zike was an ultra-light electric bicycle (weighing less than 11kg) with a 24v electric motor and battery pack hidden inside the frame.
The Zike went the same way as Sir Clive's earlier attempt at producing an electric vehicle, the Sinclair C5. In sales terms, it was actually less successful, selling only 2,000 units, priced at £499.99. Production - intended to be 10,000 a month - ended after only six months.
Currently stashed away with a couple of old school sit up and beg, steel framed (pedal power only) clunkers in the Bays of Harris, Outer Hebrides.
2 minute exposure, total darkness, green strobe, natural and blue LED.
