Pioneer boy in Pyongyang North Korea
This is the kind of picture that has shocked a south korean editor when he saw my project for my North Korea photo book: he said it was impossible to see a north korean kid smiling...
This kid has a badge on the left arm which means he is one of the best pupil in his school.
All the kids in North Korea are involved in the Pioneers, a Party operated movement. Children enter the organization in elementary school and remain there until adolescence. The children wear the red kerchiefs, and when they are not at school, kids can roam the streets, but they have to remain with friends of their own age and gender.
