Ok, yes, there will be a few waterfalls for a while, sorry. I just got to Oregon and there are quite a few for me to get through. This one was not so easy to get to, which makes me like even more. Abiqua falls is not in a park, it is not at all marked, and you need a decent 4x4 to get to it. We got most of the way down in my old, trusty Honda Pilot but had to walk the last few miles. The rough road ends and then the real fun begins. You have to scramble down a decent grade using ropes and tree roots. And if you have an Indiana-Jones-like fear of snakes this may not be for you. We saw a few. The water cascades over a basalt-like formation. I spotted this peaceful pool off to the side and I knew there would be a refection waiting for me. I had to basically lay in the water to get the shot because the damn 6d has no flip out screen (thank you Canon) but it was worth it.
I just watched a youtube video that said no one wants to see your shots. Dark. But his point was that the same easy photos are tired. He was trying to be optimistic though, he ended by saying take only shots that matter. Not sure I hit that mark, but he also said something that I can't seem to get out of my head now. He said 'no more easy shots'. I found myself repeating that as I scrambled down the hill and had water running through my shirt. Now, having that said, one would never shoot something beautiful if it were by the side of the road, so I do not totally subscribe to his theory, but if you have followed my stream you have read me rant about the how hard it is to get unique photos of amazing places, especially now that everyone is a photographer. EVERYONE. I see kids with L-series lenses now, that used to mean something.
Anyway, let me know what you think. But don't tell me to stop shooting waterfalls, I am just getting started!
