Lunatics base jumping from the Clifton Suspension Bridge with parachutes!!!!! (photos inside comments)
I was at the Clifton Suspension Bridge on Wednesday night working on another photography project, when at around 9 O'Clock, 4 people ran out to the middle bridge, climbed over the prison-like barriers and jumped off one by one with parachutes.
The dangerous activity also known as 'base jumping' has happened once on the bridge before a couple of months ago, but there were no photographs to support what happened. Previous attempts have been scuppered by the stewards at either end of the bridge, who are normally lightning quick to any kind of jump attempt.
This was pure lunacy. The bridge is only 75 metres above the river avon and their parachutes weren't opening until they were 3/4 of the way down. They only had a 5 metre strip of grass to land on and one of them landed in the muddy banks of the River Avon instead and had to be hauled out by his mates, before they proceeded to make a quick getaway.
These were the best I could get, as my camera was set up for something else in landscape mode and it was quite dark at the time.
Photos are copyright to me. Don't use them without permission please.
