Foiled by the Curse of Blackbeard Again!
The locals here speak of a curse from old Blackbeard himself upon all those who seek his buried riches.
Though I'm not the supersticious one... we've been foiled at every attempt to land on the northern shore of Blackbeard Island.
Tides and wind, waves and weather seemed to work against us everytime we tried to land on that north shore.
Today we left the dock at Blue-N-Hall marina on our way to the island and the power steering on the Key West failed.
We were stuck in a hard right turn without the ability to steer the vessel.
It was, needless to say an interesting time getting the boat back to the dock!
'Old Blackbeard done messed up ya powah steerin' looks like.'
Only a sailor could make such a statement in all seriousness without anticipating any retort whatsoever.
And so it has been determined by all in the dockside gallery... that Blackbeard himself is to blame for our power steering failure.
I am in no position to dispute that.
So once again we leave the Golden Isles without Blackbeard's gold.
I look out towards the sea with a smile on my face... a tan on my tan... the taste of salt on my lips and I laugh to myself...
What an adventure it's been!
Almost ten days of exploring and beachcombing and seeing things so many never get a chance to see... amazing gorgeous sunsets... beautiful ocean born clouds... remote deserted sandy beaches that haven't seen a footprint in a long time.... dolphins and alligators... and a rocketship launch...
The crew has had the time of their lives... they've seen history a dozen ways.... they've gone somewhere that's hard to get to... that not everyone can go... that's a reward in itself. They've enjoyed themselves immensely.
Only three weeks ago the captain sat in the defendant's chair fighting for his freedom after being falsely accused of a crime that he didn't commit.
Today he's had his fill of freedom... renewed his aquaintence with the love of his life, the sea...
We all head north very much richer than we left.
And you should know... Viewminder's a smart guy... if he did find old Blackbeard's treasure... do you think he'd tell anyone? ;)
This is Viewminder reporting to you from the docks at Blue-N-Hall marina on the Atlantic coast of Georgia near a town called Meridian... N31'24.454' W081'23.555'
All is well... the Cap'n and the crew have had a bunch of amazing adventures and seen some out of this world things... as the Captain reminisces during the second day of his fourth decade... he's happier than he ever thought he could be... relaxed... well tanned... completely decompressed and looking forward to the blue skies, calm seas and sweet sailing in the future.
There is a smile on each of our faces, love in our hearts and the comraderie that comes from the sharing of so many wonderful experiences...
It doesn't get any better than that.
