UC Berkeley Entomologist
Jerry Powell is a retired UC Berkeley Entomologist. Last year, he was the first to identify a Light Brown Apple Moth in the state in his backyard in Berkeley. As a hobby, Powell uses a blacklight to attract and identify moths. He says the apple moth was most likely in California years before he ever found it. Thousands of moths have now been found in more than a dozen counties. The majority of them are in the Bay Area and Central Coast.
