Phylloscopus proregulus

Pallas´s Leaf Warbler

This Warbler is a S* rated rarity in Finland; first time I met that. That´s why you must suffer such a poor photo taken when sun was already setting and I should have had teleflash with me.

This tiny wanderer from the Siberian taiga is reported more or less annually from Finland, mostly in October; during best seasons even more than hundred birds are observed.

Length only 90-95 mm, so on average it is a bit bigger compared to the Goldcrest, Regulus regulus with it´s 85-95 mm size. On the field they are the smallest birds in Europe and they are very much alike by habitus. Note their scientific names.
