Falcon Creek Mallard, version 9
Version 9, 1/1
In our old house before we moved, we lived 4 houses away from a pond. There were ducks and ducklings who lived in our neighborhood pond that we saw every time we went to the pond. I always loved looking at the intricate pattern of her feathers and, every once in a while, seeing a glimpse of her royal blue feathers.
I've wanted to carve a mallard-inspired print for a while, and 2017 was the year it happened.
I've been carving on this block for about a month now. When I first pulled this print, the "noise" (texture from carving) seemed too much. I then carved away a little noise, reprinted, assessed how I felt about the new version, and continued.
I went through 11 edits. I'm happy with the last and final version of carving, and I can't wait to see how it looks either with hand-painted watercolor or collaged onto paper or some combo of those. I have several ideas for it. I'm excited to see how they turn out when I try them.
Happy New Year! This is my last work of 2017.
