Rudolf Anderson Memorial, Greenville, SC

Maj. Anderson, a Greenville native and Clemson graduate, was the only casualty of the 1962 Cuban missile crisis.

The plane you see is a Sabre fighter, used during the Korean war by pilots, like Anderson. Anderson was shot down over Cuba in a U-2 spy plane, which is still in use and largely classified - hence why a U-2 is not on display in Greenville's Cleveland Park honoring Anderson for dying, instead of hundreds of millions in a nuclear war.
