Mail Carrier In the 1800's

Valentine's Day always brings to mind families, and how they may have treasured the ones they loved. This is a photo of Jim's grandfather who was a mail carrier in the late 1800's, and the early 1900's. Below is another more formal portrait. He came to mind, because of a very special autograph book he carried. It is in pretty poor condition so I scanned some of the pages a couple of years ago. The first entry is in German, and the 2nd is from his great grandfather to his son. His grandfather must have been a young man when he began collecting autographs and well wishes from his family and friends. Perhaps before his marriage. He had 2 entries from his wife-one before their marriage, and the other afterwards. I've uploaded a few of my favorite entries below in a collage, and some single ones, as well.
