Charleston-Allen Farm, Morgan County

by Georgia Historic Preservation Division, DNR

The Charleston-Allen Farm in Morgan County is owned by Odessa A. Hall, Wanda D. Huff and the Cora Charleston Pettigrew heirs. The original 172-acre farm was purchased in the 1890s by Anna Charleston, who was born a slave in 1860. Anna was the grandmother of Odessa Hall and the great grandmother of Wanda Huff. Anna Charleston slowly accumulated land on which she and her children grew corn and cotton, pigs and cattle. Today, pine trees are the principal crop.
