Eagle's Nest House
Eagle's Nest is located in the Ute Mountain Tribal Park that borders Mesa Verde. Having been to Mesa Verde several times and looking for a more authentic experience of viewing the cliff dwellings in the area I booked a full day tour with the Ute Mountain Tribal Park . Tours in the Ute Tribal Park are given by Native American Ute tour guides with access to the area prohibited without a guide. Guides interpret Ute Indian history, Ute pictographs, geological land formations, and Ancestral Pueblo petroglyphs, artifacts and dwellings.
Typically two to three thousand people per day visit Mesa Verde and to move that large of a number through it is necessary for the park to have the " herd em up, move them out " mentality . Much different at the Ute Tribal Park. Our tour had ten people , never felt pressured to move along and saw only one other tour group the whole day. Guessing that no more than fifty people see the park most days.
If looking to see what the area looked like when first explored or looted ( my opinion ) this is as close as will find. ( 1 of 3 this set. )
