In Dijon for a morning walking tour of the city. We had free time at lunchtime. We arrived before 10am, and had to leave by 2pm that day.

Hotel des Postes de Dijon

 

The Postes de Dijon hotel , nowadays Postes Grangier , is an Art Nouveau building complex , located at 8-12 Place Grangier , 1-7 rue du temple, 15 boulevard de Brosses and 2-10 rue Jean-Renaud In Dijon.

 

The hotel positions, sometimes called Our Lady of Posts and Grand Poste is the work Art Nouveau architect in vogue at Dijon in the early xx th century: Louis Perreau . It was built from 1907 on a vacant lot previously occupied by the Castle of Dijon , demolished by piece at the end of the xix th century and inaugurated October 24 the 1909 . It was subsequently enlarged from 1927 and received in 1932 . The extension, art deco style is the work of Gilles Delavault.

 

Since December 2, 2013, the Art Nouveau and neo-Louis XVI buildings have been listed by statute as a historic monument. The protected elements are: facades over the courtyard and streets, the gate of the entrance gate overlooking Jean-Renaud Street, the public room overlooking the Place Grangier , the entrance hall and the main staircase Monumental located boulevard de Brosses as well as the old well of the Castle of Dijon , nicknamed "the small bastille".

 

Since 1909, this "secular cathedral" served not only as a post office, but its metallic turret also provided a telephone exchange and a telegraph.

 

On December 13, 2013, the building permit for the total restructuring of the building as well as its renovation and upgrading to the standards is signed by the national director of the Post Office and the mayor of Dijon. The project should also allow postal services to occupy only half of the building. Thus new layouts are planned as new shops or offices on 870 m². Finally a new luxury hotel should be established on 4600 m² overlooking the façade of Place Grangier.
