Sockeye return
by EcologyWA
The fall return of sockeye to the Cooper River at Salmon la Sac is a testament of the work done by the Yakama Nation and efforts to restore the Yakima River Watershed under the Yakima Basin Integrated Plan supported through Ecology's Office of Columbia River.
The salmon are trucked above Cle Elum Dam to spawn and are returning to the basin after a 100 year absence due to extinction.
State and federal funds through the Yakima Basin Integrated Plan are helping build fish passage at Cle Elum to support fishery runs on the Cle Elum River, a tributary of the Yakima and the upper basin rivers like the Cooper.
