Rainton Meadows, Houghton-le-Spring

Temperatures down a bit, but still feeling very pleasant this afternoon on a walk around Rainton Meadows at Houghton-le-Spring in North East England.

This stretch of water was formerly a clay pit, and other parts were once part of an opencast coal mining site – not that you would be aware of that today.

The transformation has been truly amazing and the site now incorporates the HQ of the Durham Wildlife Trust.

Locally, it's a favourite spot of mine to visit, so peaceful and a great place to reflect the changing seasons.
