St Romald's Church, Romaldkirk, Teesdale

A lovely church, which I've passed so many times, but until this occasion, never been inside before.

The church is a Grade 1 listed building and contains surviving sections of Anglo-Saxon walls, not to mention a late medieval rood stair. On the day I popped in, the lady who arranges the church flowers was working on some new arrangements as I understand there was a wedding due to take place. Along with another colleague, they felt it important to tell me that the village was once in the North Riding of Yorkshire, but was 'moved' to become part of County Durham in the 1974 boundary changes. I felt that they were still feeling a bit grieved by it all but that they took some comfort from the fact that the church had held on to being part of the Diocese of Leeds, so had therefore maintained at least some links with their Yorkshire past.

The church overlooks what I can only describe as a very well kept and picturesque village.
