Es wächst viel Brot...

Es wächst viel Brot in der Winternacht,

Weil unter dem Schnee frisch grünet die Saat;

Erst wenn im Lenze die Sonne lacht,

Spürst du, was Gutes der Winter tat.

Und deucht die Welt dir öd und leer,

Und sind die Tage dir rau und schwer,

Sei still und habe des Wandels acht:

Es wächst viel Brot in der Winternacht.

There is a lot of bread growing in the winter night,

Because fresh under the snow the seeds are green quiet;

But when the sun is shining in spring,

What good the winter did, you can feeling

And the world is dull and empty,

And are the days rough and heavy,

Be still and watch the change quiet:
