Robert C. Spencer House (1905)

Okay, these people obviously want privacy.

Another architect's own home, this time in River Forest, IL. That's where you find most of Spencer's work; as well as Oak Park, Riverside, Hinsdale, and Evanston. He only designed four houses in Chicago; all on the south side. But he also helped design the balusters in the Chicago Cultural Center.

Spencer shared offices with Frank Lloyd Wright in the Steinway Piano Building (designed by Dwight Perkins) in downtown Chicago. Spencer was also famous for founding the Casement Hardware Company in 1906, which invented and manufactured window hardware.
