Traquair Jacobite Ale
A bottle of Jacobite Ale from Traquair in Innerleithen, Borders, Scotland, at Schouskjelleren in Oslo.
Jacobite Ale is an 8% abv traditional Scottish Ale, first brewed to celebrate the anniversary of the 1745 Jacobite rebellion. It is based on an eighteenth century recipe.
The beer poured a deep red brown color with a bubbly beige head. Wow, what a rich Scotch ale aroma: Tons of caramel and toasted malts, and some ripe fruit added for good measure. The mouthfeel was medium heavy with a velvety smooth carbonation. The flavor started out with a nice malty tone, caramel and roasted malts, and also hints of licorice. Yummy. Despite the rich aroma the flavor was harmonic, almost subdued, making the beer surprisingly easy to drink :-) This is a very good Scottish ale!
