Gillins Memorial

Shortly after graduation, a memorial was erected in the alley between Sakura and Hodgpodge restaurants on 13th avenue near the University Bookstore in tribute to Journalism graduate Julian Gillans who, during an exchange with three men, was punched after spending an evening with friends at a campus area bar. Gillins died from injuries sustained in the assault and his attackers are still at large.

 

The sign reads: In loving memory of Phillip Julian Gillins - you have been an inspiration to every life you've touched. We will always love and miss you. Love, your friends and family.

 

Gillins was supposed to participate in graduation ceremonies the following morning.
