James Whittaker

Lieutenant James Whittaker. Whittaker was part of Rickenbacker's B-17 crew that was lost in the Pacific in 1942. Caption on verso reads, "Lt. James C. Whittaker. Age: 41 (1942). Civilian occupation: Labor Union official - Carpenter and Contractor. Height: 5 ft. 8-3/4 inches. Strong, virile style of speech. Weight: 188. He dropped from 186 to 133 on the trip. Description: Rather heavyset, head juts forward, broad shoulders, straight brown hair, blue eyes. Married 21 years. Two children, son Thomas, daughter Shirley. Whittaker is a first Lieutenant in the Ferry Command stationed at Long Beach. He is of Scotch-Irish descent, born at Cape Girardeau, MO., talks with midwestern drawl. Home, Burlington, California. He was co-pilot on the Rickenbacker Flying Fortress." Caption added as part of the research done for the movie "Captain Eddie."
