Impractical Aspirations
We have an early 2000's 4 Runner which is right in the sweet spot of when Toyota was making great trucks. Solid frame, V6 engine with some pep, four-wheel drive that can handle mountain forest roads, and some other nice perks. No complaints....but part of me still wants a van. I have friends and met others with vans like this. They describe them as a "labor of love". They often need repairs and performance (especially over a mountain pass) is nearly non-existent. Yet there is just something about cruising out into the woods of the PNW in an old van. I will own one....one day.
I came across this VW in the canyon along the Deschutes River in Central Oregon. Sitting here with this backdrop, thinking about how many adventures it has seen....I thought it deserved a photo.
