Cottonmouth - Calloway Co. KY

Cottonmouths are common in the backwaters of Blood River. This specimen with its rich chocolate pattern was too beautiful to pass up. These are one of the apex snake species in the area. Cottonmouths have voracious appetites and will overpower virtually anything they can including other snakes, amphibians of any kind, muskrats, young beavers, and even ducks and other aquatic birds.
