Queen Street Brisbane

Shop fronts near the Brisbane Myer Centre in Queen Street. The Myer Centre itself opened in 1988 around the time of Expo '88 it retained the facades of the Brisbane Telegraph, Barry and Roberts, New York Hotel and Hotel Carlton.

The escalator and lift layout is similar to an analogous Myer Centre in Adelaide, although the the Brisbane one has a larger footprint and is a lower height. Like the Adelaide centre the Brisbane one had an amusement park on the upper floors, now gone, called 'Tops'

The buildings here are of the former Brisbane draper Allan and Stark (thanks to Nathan Murray below) which had been trading in Queen Street since the 1880's. The store later went on to be the original anchor store at Chermside Shopping Centre - Australia's first - in 1957. Two years later it would be taken over by the Melbourne-based Myer Emporium who continued to trade here until opening on the Myer Centre.
