Abandoned Hume Highway, Near Beveridge

Short abandoned section of Hume Highway where the old alignment through Wallan and Kilmore meets the current freeway bypass of the towns.

This is the southern end of the 32 km long Wallan to Broadford bypass of the Hume (now route M31), which was built between 1969 and 1976 and at the time was one of the longest sections of freeway to open in Victoria.

The old road through Wallan and Kilmore is now referred to as the Northern Highway (B75), which formerly started past Kimore. The remainder of the alignment is now known as Broadford-Kilmore Road (C311)

This portion was abandoned to allow connection of the Northern Highway with the southern interchange of the freeway bypass to the east of this area.
