Ipswich Atlantean, Nacton Road
An Ipswich Atlantean in Nacton Road during the winter of 1982/83. Former traction poles still stand as a reminder of the last extension made to the Ipswich trolleybus system along this section of road in 1948. Apart from peak time extras, normal trolleybus operation along here ceased as early as 1955, but the overhead remained in place right up until the end of trolleybuses. (In fact the final trolleybus, No. 114, worked the very last inbound journey of all along here on 23rd. August 1963.)
More recently, the scene to the right of this picture has been completely transformed following the closure of Crane's Factory which - for so many years - produced plenty of custom for Ipswich trolleybuses and motorbuses at the start and end of each shift.
