Mr. Nimal Bandara, Ambassador of Sri Lanka in State of Israel (2023)

Mr. Nimal Bandara assumed duties as Ambassador on 19th February 2023. He is a career diplomat who joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service through open Competitive exam in 2000 and he served in Sri Lanka Missions such as Beijing (Second Secretary), The Hague (First Secretary), Islamabad (Deputy Head of the Mission), Baghdad (Acting Ambassador), SAARC Secretariat (Sri Lankan Director) in Kathmandu, Sydney (Consul General), and Nicosia (Consul General).

 

Prior to being appointed as the Ambassador to Israel, he has held several appointments in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs including Director General / SAARC, Director General / East Asia, Acting Director General / Economic Affairs & Trade, Director / Middle East, Director / Consular Affairs, Asst. Director / Europe CIS and Latin America, and Asst. Chief of Protocol.

 

Apart from Sri Lanka Nimal Bandara has undertaken his foreign studies & training in the Commonwealth Youth Center, Chandigarh, India (1996), Beijing Foreign Affairs University (2001), Institute of Diplomacy & Foreign Relations (IDFR), Malaysia (2006), English and Foreign Language University in Hyderabad, India (2006), and Hawaii USA (2016).

 

He is a Graduate of the University of Sri Jayawardhanapura and obtained MSc (Information Management) from the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT). At present he is pursuing PhD in Management at University of Sri Jayawardanapura.

 

He has written several publications on his credits such as fictions for young readers, Travel Memories and History over three decades.
