Langlois Market - DSC03236
Noted for its hot dogs, I had to wait awhile to get a picture without several cars parked in front. Thankfully many people park in the side lot. The Langlois Market, opened in 1949, is relatively new in Langlois' timeline. Langlois, Oregon, is on US Highway 101 at the north end of Curry County on Oregon's southern coast. Its origins date back to about 1860 and it became the home for nearby Cape Blanco's first lighthouse keeper. Langlois became famous for its cheese, first cheddar and then blue cheese. That fame came to an end when the cheese factory burned down in 1957. The unincorporated town lives on, albeit smaller than before, as a rural community for retirees and others and for the surrounding farm and ranch land. It is now most famous for the Langlois Market, a kind of old fashioned grocery story, 7-11, and deli all wrapped into one. It is most famous for its hotdogs but also serves a wide variety of sandwiches and burgers. It does a brisk business throughout much of each day drawing in locals and knowing tourists alike.
