Cucurbita palmata -- Coyote melons

My brother found a huge coyote melon vine in the desert. The melons were a little bigger than a baseball.

 

I thought it was pretty amazing it had fruit on it, considering the teeny amount of rain we've had this year. I'd never seen one in my 37 years in the Mojave.

 

Now, if I can only get it to grow in our yard!
