Up a Lazy River
Pleasure Gardens of Le Petit Versailles
These canals and bridges were built as part of the pleasure gardens attached to the plantation (Le Petit Versailles) of Valcour Aime--once one of the richest planters in the South. Constructed by gardeners brought from Versailles and visited by Louis Philippe, future king of France, these gardens fell into ruins after the plantation house burned in 1920. Now a sad reminder of a lost world. Taken in St. James Parish, Louisiana.
