Sign: Arden Park-East Boston Historic District--Detroit MI
The Arden Park-East Boston neighborhood is one of the city's premier residential districts. It consists of about ninety homes on Arden Park and East Boston boulevards. Most of the homes were built in the 1910s in Italian Renaissance, Colonial Revival, Tudor and Elizabethan architectural styles. The most prominent non-residential building in the district is the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Arden Park-East Boston is a smaller, elegant counterpart to the Boston-Edison neighborhood just across Woodward Avenue.
The Arden name is believed to have been derived from Arden Forest of Shakespeare's "As You Like It." Before 1910, Arden Park Boulevard was known as East Chicago Boulevard. Developer Max Broock was responsible for renaming the street.
