Archaic Beauty - I

Statue of a standing youth or “Kouros”. “Kouros” and “Kore” (standing maiden) are typical works of Archaic Ionian sculpture. These statues were placed on a flat, rectangular base the central part of which was hallowed out to receive the feet of the statue, ( Kouros of Tenea in Munich).

These figures were mostly created as votive offerings or as tomb monuments.
