New Wegmans store and shopping center, under construction, in Germantown, Montgomery County, Maryland, USA.
This will be the new Shops at Seneca Meadows shopping center, located in the Northeast part of Germantown, Montgomery County, Maryland, USA. This shopping center will include the much anticipated first Wegmans grocery store in Montgomery County, Maryland, visible in the center and left of the picture, as well as some smaller inline stores and restaurants, a bank, and a two-story retail and office building. The shopping center will be about 200,000 square feet in size, with the Wegmans store taking anywhere from 120,000 to 150,000 of that square footage. Wegmans is a popular, regional chain of large footprint grocery superstores based in Rochester, New York, USA, and currently has 81 total stores in several Eastern U.S. states. The under construction Germantown, Maryland Wegmans pictured here will be the Seventh Wegmans store to open here in the U.S. state of Maryland, and is projected to open in the Fall of next year 2013. There is currently a proposal to open Maryland's eighth Wegmans store on the site of an old, vacant industrial plant in the Northwestern Baltimore suburb of Owings Mills, Baltimore County, Maryland which appears to have already been approved by the applicable authorities, but I don't think that its construction has started yet, and it will probably open, at the earliest, in the year 2014. The third Wegmans store to open in Maryland, on June 5th of last year 2011, is located in the county in which I currently live, which is Frederick County, Maryland, USA, located just North of Montgomery County, Maryland, where this under construction Wegmans is located. Specifically, we live in the Urbana master planned community, in Southern Frederick County, Maryland, located pretty much in the midpoint (10 miles either way) between the under construction Germantown, Maryland Wegmans pictured here, and the aforementioned Frederick County Wegmans store, which is located in the Northern part of its county seat and largest, principal city of Frederick, which, in turn, is located in the Central part of Frederick County, Maryland. Germantown is a Northern, outer ring suburb of Washington, DC, located in Northern Montgomery County, Maryland, USA, has a young and very diverse population of about 88,000 people, and is growing relatively fast in population. Montgomery County, Maryland is located just North of Washington, DC, and is the most populated of Maryland's 24 counties, with a diverse population of about 990,000 people, and is growing relatively fast in population. Most of Montgomery County, Maryland is heavily urbanized, with several dense, vibrant, very urban high rise clusters in the areas of Montgomery County closer to Washington, DC than the more suburban Northern, "Up-County" areas pictured here. My currently resided in Frederick County, Maryland, USA is located just North of Montgomery County, Maryland, USA, and shares its opposite, Northern border with the neighboring U.S. state of Pennsylvania. Frederick County, Maryland is the eighth most populated of Maryland's 24 counties, with a current population of about 237,000 people, and is growing relatively fast in population. Frederick County, Maryland is still considerably more rural than neighboring Montgomery County, Maryland, though it is also experiencing a good amount of suburban development, and is also included in the huge Washington, DC metropolitan area. Frederick County, Maryland functions as both an outer suburban commuting area to nearby Washington, DC and its closer suburbs, as well as a smaller, seperate metropolitan area with a strong and growing economy of its own, independent of Washington, DC and its closer suburbs. Frederick County's county seat and largest, principal city of Frederick, located in the Center of the county, is still quite a vibrant, urban, and fast growing small city in its own right, especially in its historic, relatively large downtown area. Frederick City has a relatively young, diverse and fast growing population of about 66,000 people, and has a good mix of older, densely populated, urban neighborhood toward the center of the city, and newer, suburban style residential and commercial areas more toward the outskirts.
