Painted by Willard Metcalf (1858-1925) in 1923. After 1900 Metcalf devoted himself to painting the mountains and woodlands of Connecticut, New Hampshire and Vermont. "The North Country" portrays the village of Perkinsville, Vermont, nestled in the sloping countryside below Hawks Mountain with the Black River flowing through the pasture in the foreground.
