Fence, The Ashbrook, Russell Street, Seminary Square, Covington, KY

Built in 1860, this Italianate-style brick three-bay townhouse was originally owned by William Ashbrook, who served on Covington City Council and as the Waterworks Commissioner prior to his death in 1882. After the death of Ashbrook, the house was sold, at one point serving as the lodge for the Prince Hall Masons, a Black fraternal organization affiliated with the Freemasons. The house features a painted brick exteiror, a low-pitch hipped roof, a cornice with brackets and modillions, one-over-one double-hugn windows with decorative hoods featuring pediments and brackets, a recessed front door behind an arched opening with a decorative trim surround, a three-story side bay window, a stone base, and a side porch with a shed roof, rectilinear columns, and decorative paneling. The house is a contributing structure in the Seminary Square Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Today, the house is a townhouse with an accessory dwelling unit apartment, known as The Ashbrook.
