Starý Královský Palác, Pražský Hrad, Hradčany, Praha, Hlavní Město Praha, Česká Republika

Pražský Hrad, or Prague Castle, is located in the Hradčany (Castle District) section of Prague. Located on a hilltop overlooking the city, the castle went through several periods of development starting around the year 870. Serving as a fortification during the Medieval period, the castle was converted into a grand palace and the center of the government starting under the Hapsburg monarchs in the 1540s, and continuing into the 1700s, with the completion of St. Vitus Cathedral taking until 1929. The castle became the seat of the Czechoslovak government following the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918, and today still serves as the home of the heads of state for the Czech Republic.
