Royal Penguin rookery, Macquarie Island
An amazing sight at Sandy Bay, Macquarie Island. This island is the only place in the world where Royal Penguins (Euddyptes schlegeli) breed, and visitors to the island have the rare privilege of being able to observe this rookery via a specially constructed boardwalk. From memory there are an estimated 80,000 birds in this rookery.
