Teddy Roosevelt Viewed from the Presidential Trail at Mount Rushmore
Theodore Roosevelt was not an obvious choice for Mount Rushmore, and the choice was controversial. Yet, Gutzon Borglum chose him for supporting the completion of the Panama Canal which greatly impacted world trade and for preserving for future generations many of our national parks and monuments. The artist also happened to be a friend of Teddy Roosevelt.
