Tamara Geva, Lubov Tchernicheva, Alice Nikitina, Alexandra Danilova & Serge Lifar in "La Pastorale."

The ballet La Pastorale was a choreographic invention of the young George Balanchine - a failure in Paris but a success in London, following some doctoring by Diaghilev. With a commissioned score by George Auric, designs by Pedro Pruna and libretto by Boris Kochno, its première took place on May 29, 1926 at Théâtre Sarah-Bernhardt, Paris. It had a Hollywood movie theme and Balanchine’s choreography had a male lead in the role of a telegraph boy ride on stage on his bicycle.
