On 6 December, the UN Country Team in Jordan - under the leadership of UN Women, the Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW) in partnership with the civil society organization "I am Human”, and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, organized an awareness event on the phenomenon of forced sterilizations of women and girls living with disabilities at the Geneva Hotel in Amman. The event consisted in a debate on the issue engaging key experts, like Dr. Manal Al Tahmouti - a human activist, Ms. Laila Nabhan, member of "I am Human", Ms. Ina'am Al Asha, women's rights activist, and Mr. Mohammad Al Ameen, Member of Dar El Iftaa. The debate was followed by an open discussion with 50 participants from different constituences. At the end of the event, a position paper on forced sterilizations of women and girls living with disabilities was developed and will be submitted to the government attention.
