A long established manufacturer of railway engines, based in Alsace, France, De Dietrich began building motor cars from 1896 under licence from Bollee, Vivinus and Turcat-Mery from their plants in Luneville and Niederronn. Ettore Bugatti worked as an engineer for the company from 1902. In 1905 De Dietrich decided to withdraw from motor manufacturing in order to concentrate on mechanical construction, railroad equipment, process systems, central heating equipment and appliances. In 1992 De Dietrich assumes control of Cogifer, market leader in fixed railroad installations ceeding control of the appliances business to Thomson, which was subsiquently taken over by Fagor-Brandt, In 1995 Alstrom-DDF aquired a major stake in the rail rolling stock side of the business. De Dietrich today focuses on De Dietrich Process Systems, a world leader in API process and other process equipment to the pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries. with an industrial presence in Asia, Europe and USA.

 

This car normally resides in the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu. This car was built as a fast touring car, with the engine at the front, gearbox amid ships and chain driven rear wheels, as well as braking to the rear wheels only, This car was originally the property of the gold mining pioneer, Sir Joseph Robinson. The car was stored in a London furniture depository from 1910 until exhumed in 1956.
