Paddle Harder (Explored July 19/09)
Sheree and I were on Scott Kelby's World Wide Photo Walk over the weekend.
Photographers of all ages and sizes, digital and film, pros and newbies got together to take a two hour walk through Edmonton's River Valley.
I am not good in social situations as a rule. Unless I'm getting paid to entertain, I am pretty much a happy hermit.
But these were outstanding people. There was laughter and chatter, people exchanged ideas and strategies. A woman offered to hold a flower still for me so the wind wouldn't buffet it around while I was trying to get the basics for an HDR sunflower shot.
As we crossed a bridge, two rowing teams were practicing. We were in a perfect vantage point to get our shots as they passed under the bridge.
The woman calling the orders was REALLY LOUD. She sounded like their very lives depended on rowing FASTER and HARDER.
I thought: gee. What if it did? What if these people were on the water and something really strange started to happen?
What if the water turned black and started to boil and swirl with yellow fire? Yikes! What if this group of newbie paddlers had to paddle for their lives? There's a Stephen King kinda story in there somewhere.
It's spooky in my imagination sometimes...
