Tennessee Toys & Comics team member Dustin âD-Robâ Robinson removes a collectible comic and Drew Brown adjusts the lineup of featured comics on the online auction area's background wall at Tennessee Toys & Comics, where owner and founder Zach Russell, and his team of four; make their customer contacts and livelihoods using live social media websites, a phone, and the high-speed fiber-optic connections of North Central Telephone Cooperative Corporation (NCTC) headquartered in Lafayette, Tennessee, to host live online auctions of collectable comic books and toys, on Sept 27, 2018.
Mr. Russell says that the high-speed connection is crucial to auctions. The hostsâ verbal response to buyersâ chatroom texts questions and bids are in near-real time. With only a few seconds delay, this simple an economical connection works great for them. Slower or inconsistent connections make the dialogue disjointed or misunderstood with slow connections. In the worst-case scenario, an online bidder may not see challenging bids in time to counter bid, or their bids are not received at all, leading to disputes. Mr. Russell says âNCTC are the veins that carry it (make it possible)â
As item are displayed and described to the bidders, they may be asked by bidders (by text) to show the comic book in greater detail. With the fast connections, the team is âglad to accommodate,â as Drew Brown said in the 11,000 sq. ft. store in downtown Lafayette.
Typically, the live auction broadcast sessions have 35-50 bidders/customers from various location around the world.
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Utilities Service (RUS) administers programs that provide much-needed infrastructure or infrastructure improvements to rural communities. These include water and waste treatment, electric power, and telecommunications services. All of these services play a critical role in helping to expand economic opportunities and improve the quality of life for rural residents.
The cooperative is a full-service provider, providing voice, video, data, broadband, home security, cloud services, and data center solutions. Their data center offers virtualized computing and networking services including off-site data back-up, hosted servers, disaster recovery, and secure data storage.
These capabilities and the infrastructure are expensive to invest in, because of the lower customer density in rural regions such as this, NCTC has been an active borrower with U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Utilities Service (RUS) since 1951 to provide service to subscribers in Tennessee and Kentucky, that rival companies in metropolitan areas.
Over the past 10 years, NCTC has received funds in the form of $101,782,663M in loans and $25,930,868M in grants.
The companyâs most recent loan, which was obligated in 2017, will be used to make system improvements in 5 of North Central's 10 exchanges (Green Grove, Hillsdale, Red Boiling Springs, Scottville, and Lafayette). This will complete their fiber to the premises network throughout their territory. This project is currently in the âconstructionâ phase.
